Cheering Myself On

Do you remember when I was going to Curves a lot? I really liked it!

I liked that Curves was only open to women and most just wore shorts and a t-shirt. I loved the way it works at Curves. Their machines are in a big circle. When you arrive, you just get on an open piece of equipment. It is effective equipment but simple enough to learn quickly. Energetic music is playing but every 90 seconds a message is played to move to the next piece of equipment. A typical work out would take me around the circuit about three time but you could go as long or as short as you wanted. Each piece of equipment targeted a different group of muscles.

It was a comfortable system for me and I liked it. Being a small family run gym, though, their hours were a bit limited. When I started working more hours myself it often seemed that their hours didn't coincide as well with my available hours. Anyway, I gave up my membership and have since fallen into a state of disrepair.

Before Curves I worked out at home with Wii Fit. I really enjoyed that as well. Why did I quit doing that? It was rather fun. I can't even think of an excuse.

Mike has faithfully worked out at home for most of his adult life. He's been very good to make it part of his morning routine. I've always admired his self-discipline with it. Why haven't I been like that? Again, I have no excuse.

Well, last week I became eligible for a gym membership offered by my employers. Also, one of my co-workers asked me to be a work-out partner with her. After reading about my daughter and her work-out buddy inspiring each other, I decided that would be a good idea. She is looking fantastic! So, soon, I expect to be in better shape as well. Ok, it may take a bit of time but I'm going to get started, anyway.

Now, I need to get fit at home before I go to the gym so I look the part!

I'm just kidding... kind of. You know what I mean, though, don't you? In my mind I am thinking everyone there will be all buff and I will look like a middle-aged woman who has fallen off the exercise wagon...which I am.

If I ever were to hire a maid service I would no doubt clean my house the night before they were to come. It is all the same concept.

Can you tell that this post is my way of accomplishing two goals?
     (1) I am trying to be my own cheerleader to get myself motivated.
     (2) I figured if I announced my intentions in a blog post I would have to follow through.

How about you? Are you doing any kind of work out and taking good care of yourself? Do you have a work-out partner or are you going it alone? Do you go to a gym or do something in your own home? Anyone else doing the Couch to 5K that my daughter is doing? She really likes it. There are so many ways to get into shape. I am ready to get back at it!

This Day

I have a list of things to do today.  How about you?  I am not working at hospice so I've made some plans of my own.

  1)  Make breakfast burritos for breakfast.

  2)  Do lesson from The Essential Jesus with Mike.

So, as you see, I've already done those first two.  Yes, I am one of those people who write things I've already done on my list just so I may have the pleasure of checking them or crossing them off.  Do you do that?

 3)  Pack a lunch for Mike to take to work.  Oops, scratch that...he just left while I was working on my blog. Drop off a lunch for Mike at work.

 4)   Go to Curves for a workout so that I can feel self-righteous the rest of the day.

 5)   Take this new book I bought at the grocery store and read it to Cordy at her house.  Any day I get to spend time with that charmer is a perfect day for me!

6)     Take Maria and Cordy and meet another friend for lunch.  That will be a treat!

7)     Tackle this stack of what seems to be mostly junk mail.  It won't be exciting but it has to be done.

8)     Crochet like the wind!  Maria had a great idea of taking samples of some of our products into a new little local store to see if they'd like to carry some of our items.  The owner ordered quite a bit from us, to be delivered next week!  Yay!  She said if it goes well, she'd like to carry more of our things!  Now, we are both working toward completing that order as well as making new items for Wyoming Rose Boutique at Etsy.  I love any reason to crochet, sew or craft!

So, in spite of the fact that we are under a high wind warning...

"A HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST THURSDAY.
* SUMMARY AND TIMING... A STRONG SOUTHWEST WIND WILL OCCUR TODAY AND TONIGHT.
* WIND... A SOUTHWEST WIND OF 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH.
* IMPACTS... STRONG AND SUDDEN WIND GUSTS WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. "

It's going to be a great day!

Just Doing the Week-End Thing

Yesterday afternoon I enjoyed some lovely snuggle-nap time with Cordelia.  This is the photo I sent to her parents via phone while they were on their date.  She was fast asleep in my arms and I was loving it.  Bode kind of broke the mood by throwing up 5 times, but other than that it was lovely.

This morning I spent a couple of hours at Curves.  The manager had asked me to come in to set up some of our Wyoming Rose stuff.  They were just open 2 1/2 hours but we had some pretty good sales so I was quite happy.

Now I am home.  I am cozy in my recliner about to do some more speed-crocheting.  No deep thoughts from me today.
I don't think Saturdays were ever meant for deep thoughts anyway.

How's your week-end going?

Updates and a Fun Friday

It occurred to me that I've left some things dangling.  Let me supply some updates because I am certain you are all dying to know the REST OF THE STORY...

1)    Maria named our nameless lady Simone.

2)    The carpet story is still not complete.  The THIRD new carpet has made it to town.  I went to the store and checked it out and when I tugged on the fibers they STAYED IN THE CARPET!  Yay!!!!!  I called my carpet-layer guy and he said he is busy for a couple weeks on other jobs.  At this point, what is another few weeks, right?  I'm ok with that.  I'm also ok with the third carpet being totally a different style and color than what I first chose.  I think it will look just as good and maybe even better.  I'm just glad that it isn't pluckable!

3)    Curves is FUN!  I love exercising there!  It is a really nice work-out and I think it is a very common sense approach to fitness.  I'll no doubt write more about that in the future.

OK.  Have I picked up on all those stories where I've left you hanging?  I know, the suspense must've been awful.

Now, on to tell you about yesterday...

I had Cordelia here most of the day and we had FUN!  We bounced on the trampoline a lot, read books, played with toys, ate lunch and then watched Wonder Pets.  Cordy fell asleep while I crocheted.  When she'd slept long enough I started talking to her and moving her around but she just flickered those long lovely lashes and fell back to sleep.  Then, I remembered Maria telling me that she wakes up when she hears the intro music to Psych.  So, via the wonder of NetFlix I turned it on.  She sat up and said, "It's music; I like music!"  It was pretty funny!

Yesterday afternoon I decided it was high time that I become a cookie-baking kind of grandma.  Cordy agreed so we got to it.  I found a recipe in my Betty Crocker Cookbook that did not call for eggs (Cordy is a vegan) and we set to work.
We used Smart Balance Light, which is also vegan.

Cordy really likes Smart Balance Light.
The bottle in the background are coffee flavorings, like Tiramasu...just so you know.

Notice her tongue as she dumped in the powdered sugar.

I guess she had a plan for using that tongue.

So we washed the measuring cup.  That's really not a very interesting part of the story but the bubbles were really cool in the photo so I'm making you look at it.

Cordy used a 2-handed method.

This is what a face looks like after licking out the measuring spoon that had ginger in it.
She needed a lot of drinks after that.

I had to use a bell cook-cutter because that is all I found.

Cordy approved of the final result.

Then, last evening we had Cordy's parents and our niece, Erin, over for dinner.  Erin is visiting from Chicago so we were especially excited to have her join us.
We enjoyed an after-dinner stroll as well.
Please notice what a happy, smiling bunch we were.

The photos were taken BEFORE we came home and played Scattegories.
SOMEONE cheated...again...
No names but he was wearing a green shirt.

So, does anyone have any big plans for the week-end?

Changes

I am going to be "playing" with new designs and layouts for my blog for the next few days.  I'm not sure I can break away from the Orange Paisley background but we'll see.  If you have opinions regarding any of the looks I try, let me know.
I just think it is time I polish it up a bit.

I think it is time to polish myself up a bit as well...

At our craft fair last Saturday our booth was next to the Curves booth.
Remember how slow the craft fair was?
The lady at the booth, Marla, was a very good salesperson!
You guessed it.
I signed up.

I went in yesterday afternoon to seal the deal.
I filled out paperwork and she did the weigh & measure session that
I guess occurs once each month.
Since I had on a dress and was not prepared for an actual
work-out she didn't take me through the equipment and all that.

TODAY
I return for my first work-out.

I will let you know how that goes!
